IPod-Ido's:
When trying to save money on their wedding, some couples are making their own music, with their own MP3 players. The cost of an IPod ranges from $80 to $400, a fraction of the cost of a band and less than a DJ. If the reception site has the right sound equipment, the only cost is the time it takes to program a playlist. Of course, this music method is limited and much less flexible than live entertainment, but for those on a tight budget, with a smaller guest list, it is a viable alternative.
Some tips for an IPod wedding include:
Make sure your location has the right sound equipment
Appoint someone to be in charge of the music
Use an MP3 player that holds at least five hours of playing time
Flowers:
- Select your florist as soon as possible, but after you've chosen your dress. That way you can coordinate flowers throughout the theme of the affair and match them to your look.
- Choosing flowers that are in season can save you money. Here are some examples of seasonal flowers:
- Summer - rose, dahlia, hydrangea, lavender, sweet pea, Chinese peony, zinnia, orchid
- Fall - chrysanthemum, hops, ornamental cabbage, magnolia, Chinese lantern
- Winter - mistletoe, ivy, heather, hypericum, amaryllis, holly
- Spring - iris, tulip, lilac, freesia, daffodil, peony, snapdragon, English lavender
Honeymoon:
- Couples should use a travel agent they trust to give them great service. One who will get them amenities and upgrades, for example.
- It is suggested that couples book (hotel, car rental, etc.) in the price range they are comfortable with and then have the travel agent call 2 to 3 days before the trip to see if they can possibly get a complimentary upgrade.
Etiquette:
- When making the trip to the stationer for invitations, here are some things to remember/consider: announcements; save the date cards; response cards; programs; seals for the envelopes; reception cards; thank you notes; place cards; personalized postage.
- While not required, guest gifts are much appreciated. You can delight out-of- town guests with special touches like welcome baskets or gift bags they can enjoy in their hotel room. Mementos for guests to take home can be simple, a single rose for each lady, some chocolates, a CD made up of wedding songs, a framed picture or a favor that follows the wedding theme.
Bridal Beauty:
- Consult with your hairstylist about your wedding day options and, if possible, try them out before the day. Try to decide on your hairstyle before you choose your headpiece, veil and other hair accessories. Long, flowing hairstyles look best with jeweled headbands and larger tiaras. Updos work well with hairpins, flowers, small tiaras and combs.
- Try not to make major changes in hair color before the wedding day. If you want to color your hair, try to consult with a colorist six months before, to make a gradual change. If you select temporary color, avoid frequent shampooing that may cause color to fade. Use an acid-balanced shampoo because it is gentler, and it replicates the natural ph-balance of hair and skin. Also, use an acid rinse after every shampoo to prevent damage during styling.
- If your skin tends to be oily, cut moisturizer use down to once a day before the wedding, and use an oil-free makeup for the big day, preferably a powder that soaks up sheen.
- Makeup can also be airbrushed for your wedding day. Primarily used for actors and models, this technique is relatively new to the wedding scene. An airbrush is used to spray a cool mist of makeup over the skin. It requires very little or no touchups and makes the skin appear radiant, rather than made-up.
